Red Instead for April

April is Autism Awareness Month.

Neurodiversity is the idea that neurological differences (like Autism, Aspergers, Sensory Processing Disorder, ETC) are a normal, natural variation of the human genome. My condition is not the result of an illness, injury, disability, disease or vaccine – this is the way I was born. It’s my genetic predisposition, and I don’t believe that I, or others like me, need to be cured. Rather so, neurodiverse individuals need understanding – and at times, different accommodations. So let’s forgo “Light It Up Blue” and go “Red Instead” for April to highlight Autism Acceptance.

  1. Red is a power color, so yeah, go RED. I understand because the people I know that live on the spectrum are content being who they are, not who others think they should be. Let’s face it, some are uncomfortable with what they don’t understand. What gets my goat is those who make no effort to do so. We all have talents, and were made the way we are equipped with different strengths. Allowed to do so — judgement withheld, we all contribute to the whole.Red is a power color, so yeah, Go Red!!!
